Customized Learning

Constantly changing demands have made learning a lifetime activity. The Customized Learning Division (sometimes referred to as "Continuing Education") at Indian Hills Community College provides services to anyone who wants to learn a new skill, complete professional relicensure courses, earn continuing education credits, or enhance their professional skills.

Customized Learning offers non-credit courses in several areas, including:

  • General Interest Courses — such as aerobics, art, cake decorating, crafts, dog obedience, golf, motorcycle safety, self-defense, upholstery, and more.


  • Relicensure Courses — for professions such as cosmetology, insurance, nursing, real estate, etc.


  • Short-Term Preparatory Courses — in fields such as nursing assistant, commercial truck driver, and computer-aided drafting.


  • Adult Career Supplementary Courses — such as apprenticeship training, auto body, basic life support, clerical, food management, homemaker, home health aide, insurance, welding, and more.

Non-Credit Online Courses

Indian Hills also offers a variety of non-credit online courses through three service providers: SkillSoft, Ed2Go, and Gatlin Education Services (GES).

Commercial Driver Training (CDT)

This course (six to nine weeks in length) covers the basic knowledge and skills used in commercial truck driving. Students who successfully complete Commercial Driver Training will have the practical driving and operational skills necessary to safely and efficiently operate commercial motor vehicles as entry-level drivers.

Iowa BioDevelopment (IBD)

Iowa BioDevelopment (IBD) is an industry training and education outreach program of Indian Hills Community College. Iowa BioDevelopment provides high quality training and support services for biotechnology, biofuel, and value-added agricultural companies and contributes to the economic growth of these business sectors through workforce development.

The Rural Health Education Partnership (RHEP) works to develop, coordinate, and distribute quality educational programs to health care workers. Courses are offered to meet the needs of professionals who must continually attend training in order to maintain their licenses.
