Women’s Cross Country was added to the intercollegiate sports offered at Indian Hills Community College in the fall of 2007, providing a means for talented distance runners from Iowa and elsewhere to compete at the college level. It also offers students, who have not run competitively in the past, the opportunity to develop their running abilities and participate in college athletics.
The women’s cross country meets are generally run over an 5,000 meter (5K) course. The Warriors' preseason and season training takes place on a specially designed course on the Ottumwa Campus and off-campus, as well.
The fall schedule usually includes around six regular season meets, the Region XI (conference) meet, a district championship, and the national championship meet. The goal of the Indian Hills women’s cross country team is to compete at the regional and, ultimately, the national level.
Indian Hills had an All-American in its first season, when Lauren Jones qualified at the NJCAA National Championship meet.
