Are you a hands-on learner who has a passion for healthcare?  Do you enjoy watching shows like Grey’s Anatomy or Botched?  Then the Surgical Technology program at Indian Hills may be a good fit for you!  Surgical Technologists typically prep both patients and operating rooms for surgeries, as well as sterilize equipment, pass instruments to surgeons during surgery, use retractors to assist the surgeon, and help transfer the patient to a recovery room after the surgery has been completed. It’s fast-paced, but we know you can keep calm under the pressure!

So put your gloves on, and come join a career that’s sure to be Life.Changing. for you, your patients, and the medical professionals you’ll work with.

During your final term, you will take the national certification exam for surgical technologists, and be prepared to find a job in a variety of health care settings that include surgery or central supply departments in hospitals or ambulatory surgery centers.

What you will learn:
  • Correlate the knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and microbiology to their role as a Surgical Technologist
  • Relate the ethical, legal, moral, and medical values related to the patient and surgical team during the perioperative experience
  • Correlate the elements, action, and use of medications and anesthetic agents used during the perioperative experience
  • Implement safe practice techniques and knowledge in regards to perioperative routines, patient transportation, positioning, and emergency procedures
  • Integrate principles of surgical asepsis as part of the perioperative experience
